Unusual Usage, Carried Outside of the Mails
"1859 Circular, Presspring Schonfeld & Co., 20 Dicbre" docketing. Likely meant to be mailed in New York City, but instead carried outside the mails to Vera Cruz and postmarked there. There is no indication that the Mexican post office charged postage. The 2c circular rate was not applicable in Mexico. The cover with a vertical crease.
