Very Fine Boston straightline use during the Confederation period

Clear strike of larger brownish black "BOSTON" straightline handstamp with matching bold "30/SE" Franklin mark, manuscript "4" (dwt) rate for 300-400 miles on docketed folded cover to Philadelphia, rate restated in local currency as "1/10" (4dwt = 12p x 1.67 inflation factor = 20p + 2p carrier fee = 22p or 1sh10p). Boston to Philadelphia, Sep. 30, 1787. The rate of 4dwt was for a single letter sent 300-400 miles. This 28 x 5mm Boston SIL hand stamp is reported used in brown black from Mar. 7, 1787 to Aug. 11, 1789; and in black from June 22 to July 19, 1789.
