One of Only Three Recorded 3L2s on Cover
Illustrated as the cover photo for the A Preliminary Census of Allen's City Dispatch Covers By Eric J. Karell article. Only 2 others are listed in the census. Black on white, tied on cover with purple Jan. 11, 1883 date stamp and Eagle fancy cancel. Addressed to local street address. Extremely rare on cover. With PF Cert which reads, "SINGLE, PURPLE "ALLEN'S CITY DISPATCH, 125 CLARK STREET, JAN. 11, 1883" DOUBLE LINE OVAL DATESTAMP AND EAGLE FANCY CANCEL ON COVER TO LOCAL STREET ADDRESS. AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT IT IS A GENUINE USAGE, THE COVER WITH A SMALL TEAR AT TOP LEFT AND THINNING ON BACK."

#351 in Vern Morris census Two, 1c Bronze on Lilac, one with large margins, other with large margins to slightly in, with acid cancel on cover to local address. "Blood's Penny Post, Philada. Dec. 13, 8 A.M." double-circle datestamp (Type 15). Very Fine, scarce use of two 15L14's to pay new 2c rate.

Blood's City Despatch, 15L14 and 64b on Patriotic Carrier Cover

Patriotic Cover with Blood's Carrier Usage
Item #26 in Cliff Alexander's Survey of Patriotic Covers Carried by Local Posts 1c Bronze on Lilac, acid tied at top center beside 3c rose 1861 tied by Philadelphia black octagon cds dated September 22, 1861 and Blood's black double line cds dated September 27, 1861. Addressed to "James C. Hufty/Company C. Col.Bakers/Regiment/Camp Advance/Fairfax County/Va." Red, white and blue flag at left (same design as Walcott #2978) with the following: "We must keep that Flag where it e'er has stood In front of the Free, the Wise, and the Good! And fight and fall, at our Country's call. To defend the Flag of the people!" Colonel Baker's California Regiment was really a Philadelphia regiment since most of it's men came from there. It latter became the 71st Pennsylvania Volunteers. With PF Cert which states, "SINGLES, ON PATRIOTIC COVER TO SOLDIER AT CAMP ADVANCE, FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA; LOCAL ACID CANCELLED, 3c WITH 1861 PHILADELPHIA TOWN CANCEL. AND BLOODS DATESTAMP. AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT IT IS A GENUINE USAGE, THE STAMP WITH A VERTICAL CREASE AT UPPER LEFT; THE COVER WITH AN EDGE SPLIT AT TOP RIGHT. "

Illustrated in The Chronicle 90 Vol. 28, No. 2
G. Carter's Despatch. 90 N. Fifth St. Paid. Small circular handstamp, much clearer strike than usual, with blue "Philada. Pa. 5 Mar. 22" cds on 1849 folded letter from the proprietor, George Carter, with interesting content regarding accounts with the post office. Light wear and soiling along file fold, otherwise Very Fine, scarce marking.

Floyd's Penny Post, 68L3, 1c Green, Used

Only 6-7 used examples are known off cover.
1c Green, used. The 68L3 green stamps are recorded to only be used in October and November 1862. They appear to be the last printing, probably by Kimball & Waterman, before the post was closed. There are only three recorded covers, six or seven used stamps off cover, and three or four unused stamps.

The second largest multiple of any Floyd's stamp
Illustrated in Byways pg 185 Horizontal strip of three, large margins to ample at top, clear strikes of "Floyd's Penny Post" circular sunburst handstamp, the soft paper has two tiny thin speck and a small tear at lower left, still Extremely Fine With a PF Cert which states, "HORIZONTAL STRIP OF THREE, FLOYD'S PENNY POST "SUNBURST" CANCELS. AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT It Is Genuine, The Left Stamp With A Small Scissors Cut At Bottom Left AND THE RIGHT STAMP WITH A SMALL TONED SPOT IN THE BOTTOM RIGHT MARGIN."

Very Fine and Scarce Use
Light strike of red Hanford's Pony Express oval handstamp on folded Valentine with inside containing multicolored comic scene with poem and cupid riding a donkey, expertly silked so cannot be opened, some edgewear, pen "1840" at top left is not contemporary, still Very Fine and scarce use.

Included in the 112L1 Cover Survey. 1c Violet Type II, irregular margins cutting in, tear into center, tied by "City Despatch Jul. 28 2 P.M. 1856" circular datestamp, used with 3c Dull Red, cut in, tied by "Washington D.C. Jun. 28, 1856" circular datestamp on small cover to New London Conn., edge faults, scarce.

Jones’ City Express, 81L1, Unused

Jones' City Express, 1845, 2c black on pink, four clear to large margins showing the complete stamp design with a PF Cert which states "IT IS GENUINE, THINNED AT BOTTOM, WITH A SMALL CORNER CREASE AT BOTTOM RIGHT" This stamp is notorious for having one of more sides cutting into the design. We known of only one other example than this one with four margins.
