Hussey's Post, New York N.Y., 2c (87L41) tied by "2 Ct. Paid Hussey 50 Wm. St." circular datestamp on cover to local street address
This insurance cover bears a copy of Hussey’s black stamp of 1872 which is tied by Hussey’s purple, concentric-ring cancellation. This cancellation was used in the 1880’s by the post.
The Philatelic Foundation certificate for this cover states that it is a genuine usage, used on a cover posted at least 11 years after the issuance of the stamp.
It is well known that Hussey’s recognized their old postage stamps as being valid for the pre-payment of delivery fees whenever they were presented for such. It is a lovely example of the type of mail delivered by Hussey's, Boyd's and other private mail delivery enterprises.
Hussey's Post, 1872 Black, single, clear to ample margins, tied by purple target cancel on locally used envelope with printed Republic Fire Ins. Co. corner card, small cover tear into corner card, otherwise Very Fine.
Tied by PMO-F purple handstamp on September 1, 1877 Knickerbocker Fire Insurance card.
