Our Story
Designed by collectors, for collectors.
Americana Stamps is a philatelic auction house, located in Southern California, specializing in classic U.S. stamps and postal history, Carriers and Locals, Civil War postal history, Express mail, Western Expresses, and Early Americana. Founded by collectors, our auctions feature expert cataloging, high-resolution imaging, and research-driven descriptions built for serious collectors.
Americana Stamps grew from five decades of private dealing and collecting into a Southern California auction house, founded by lifelong collectors and father-and-daughter team. Today we serve philatelists worldwide through multiple specialized sales each year, conducted both through our custom auction platform and live on Stamp Auction Network.
We believe every philatelic item tells a story. Our role is to honor that story through careful curation, expert research, and collector-centered presentation. The values that guided us as collectors, transparency, generosity with knowledge, and respect for the material, shape every aspect of how we run the auction today.

What are Carriers and Locals stamps?
Carriers and Locals refer to stamps and postal markings from the private mail carriers, local posts, and government carrier services that operated in U.S. cities primarily during the 1840s and 1850s. Before the federal government standardized mail delivery, private companies like Boyd’s, Hussey’s, and Blood’s competed with the Post Office to collect and deliver mail within cities, often issuing their own stamps. Government-employed carriers also collected fees for local delivery until 1863, when carriers became salaried employees and separate fees ended. These stamps and covers document a fascinating period of competition between private enterprise and government postal service. Americana Stamps is active in the Carriers and Locals Society and regularly features this material in our auctions.
